Anal dilators for sexual rehabilitation

Sexual rehabilitation of gay and bisexual prostate cancer (PCa) patients is based on heteronormative assumptions of sex, which does not fully consider sexual rehabilitation related to the loss of pleasure and experience of pain during receptive anal intercourse (RAI). It is estimated that 10-23% of gay/bisexual men (GBM) treated for PCa experience anodyspareunia (i.e., painful RAI). Interventions to aid in sexual rehabilitation for this population are needed. We aimed (1) to describe changes in painful RAI and (2) to examine the association of anal dilator use with painful RAI over time.  See the results of this exploratory study presented at the International Academy of Sex Research (2023).
